Early Life
Gert van Tonder was born in Bergplaas near George on 29 June 1941. He grew up studying in schools and earned some degrees and qualifications.
Education
The talented actor completed a master’s degree in psychology and metaphysics.
Career
The veteran actor has made appearances in many television and movie productions. He has many music credits and was part of an Afrikaans musical duo with Sias Reinecke titled Groep 2. They entertained and performed together for fifteen years.
Adding to the tally, Tonder is a songwriter who has written many songs. Among his songwriting credits include Sproeitjies and Karnaval in Bloemfontein. Eventually, he left as a member of Groep 2 to pursue a solo career as a singer.
Television gigs started coming in, and he landed many roles in several productions. He performed in stage plays and appeared in many radio dramas. He co-presented the kid’s television program titled Wielie Walie for twelve years.
The actor landed many movie gigs. He appeared in My Liefling in 1968, Z.E.B.R.A in 1971, and Sien Jou More in 1970. Van Tonder’s other credits include the 1973 production Die Wit Sluier and Sonja (1978).
Van Tonder has taken part in many stage plays. He appeared in in Putsonderwater (1980) and Daa’ Gaat Die Bruid! (2016).
