Hélène Truter (born 13 October) is a South African actress. She has starred in many productions, but playing Poppie in the SABC2 sitcom Vetkoekpaleis is among her best-known roles. She appeared from 1998-2005.

Truter is the creator, head writer, and actress of the drama series Swartwater. She has spent over thirty years in showbiz and has made many contributions to the SA film and TV industry. Her works have earned her many recognitions.

Career

Hélène Truter made waves in the movie industry in the nineties for playing Tannie Poppie in the Afrikaans sitcom Vetkoekpaleis. She started to pen down scripts in the early nineties after she became part of the Egoli scriptwriting team.

The actress is credited with writing three hundred Egoli scripts. She became Assistant Head writer for the Generations script department in 1997.

Truter became the Head Writer for Africa’s biggest soap in 2001. She conceptualized over seven hundred episodes and wrote over a hundred and eighty scripts in seven years with the soap opera.

The veteran actress also conceptualized and co-wrote Hart van Staal. The thirty-nine-part drama series aired on kykNET and later on M-Net.

Hélène was the head writer and co-writer of another telenovela, Begeertes. She and Henriëtta Greyffenberg were the original creative team for Erfsondes.

Her film and television credits date back to the eighties. She was the creator and head writer of the SABC2 drama series Swartwater.

Personal Life

Hélène Truter is married to an actor and script editor, Percy Pretorius. The couple has a daughter, Jana Pretorius. She has a lifestyle store in Hermanus called Amulet. She bought the store in 2010.
